Leon Panneta
I noticed the article avoids the word "torture." I feel that they are avoiding using that word to avoid controversy. "Torture" is a blurred word. There are several ways one can define it. If torture was used by the columnist, people would challenge the authenticity of it. The columnist doesn't know if torture was used, but it is implied. Torture is what one can define as violent and immoral and what another person can define as affective and necessary. There is too much controversy on the word.
